Such a powerful read, whether you’ve been a Christ follower for a day, a year, a decade or more-this book has a lesson or a reminder for you. Every single chapter had me reflecting on my walk with Christ and how to love those around me better.
- Jennie Donohue

The vastness and deep mysteries of the sea are used as the perfect platform to take the reader on an allegorical journey into spiritual awareness. As such, The Parables of the Sea deserves a slow, thoughtful read.
- Robin West, Author of D.B. and the Redemption of John Mead
-
As I read Parables of the Sea I couldn't help but feel like he was telling my story - the vivid imagery between worlds with the tensions presented as both live alongside another took me back to Lewis's The Screwtape Letters. Anyone reading this will be both encouraged and challenged in their own faith journey. I look forward to more!
- Dr. Rob Baddeley, Pastor, Faith Baptist Church of Harney County

Parables of the Sea stirred something deep in each of us - a reminder that grace meets us not in perfection, but in persistence. Each story felt like a quiet tide drawing the soul closer to its true horizon.

My favorite Christian fiction book I’ve read to date. Justin J. Major has captivated me with the world he has created in “Parables of the Sea” It’s not only a great read, it will have you consistently looking in a mirror and evaluating yourself in the best possible way. A hard book to put down, can’t recommend enough.
- Trinity Laymance
-
A metaphorical novel that can be read continuously or chapter by chapter like a devotional. The parallels are wonderfully vivid for a new or seasoned believer. Overall very encouraging to your walk with Christ!
- Ashley Barrett
-
The Shallows was really powerful. It’s amazing how our comfort and or fear of change traps us in things that are really detrimental to our spiritual lives.
- Mike P.
-
“People want the church experience without God challenging them", that line stuck with me above all else. This book will open your eyes and deepen your relationship with the Lord. The author gives you a different perspective on faith with a new way to look at the design of life that God has created for us.
- Stephanie DeWaide
-
From the moment I picked up this book I was captivated as I was whisked off on an adventure of introspection and faith. It reminded me of my own spiritual journey and how every step is a leap of faith.
- Jamie S.
-
This book speaks to the new believer and the seasoned follower. It is a refreshing reminder on who we are called to be and how rewarding the journey is.
G. Kamdar
-
The Author wants you to immerse yourself fully in Christ - not halfway - all the way in to realize what He has for your life.
- Rob Saunders
-
Parables of the Sea is an impactful collection of stories that gently guides readers toward understanding God’s path through the ebb and flow of life’s challenges. Its simple yet profound lessons are both helpful and deeply reflective, leaving a lasting impression long after the final page.
- James Crowell
-
The perfect book for new Christians or those ready for the seed to be planted and want a more casual introduction to what walking with Christ looks like. Or, for those who want to be reminded of the journey we are called to be on.
- Anna S.

The Mission To The Shallows came alive for me. The concept of a lukewarm faith and life was such a vivid and horrifying reality. Mr. Major does a brilliant job of illustrating this while assuring the reader of God’s promise and love.
- Lily E.

There are seasons in life when the fog rolls in without warning. The course you were confident in disappears, familiar landmarks fade, and suddenly you’re unsure where you are—or how you got there. Loss, transition, unexpected change, even good times can come with an overload of choices, disorienting us just as deeply as tragedy.
In those moments when clarity fades, slowing down isn’t weakness. Anchoring isn’t quitting. There is wisdom in pausing long enough to check your depth, to listen, and to admit you don’t have clear bearings. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding…” (Proverbs 3:5–6). Trust comes before clarity and understanding.
Some fog lifts on its own. Other fog lingers—and charging ahead at full speed can do real damage. Stopping to reevaluate, pray, and realign is often the bravest move forward.
And here’s the hope: once you’ve walked through the fog yourself, you become uniquely equipped to help others. Your light shines brighter. Your bell carries farther. Not to take over their journey—but to walk beside them, guide them, and remind them they’re not alone.
If you’re in the fog today, trust Him first.
If you’ve come out of it, keep watch for those still lost in it and move to be their guide pointing them back to Him.
In honor of another word for the year—Balance—I included a rendering of a favorite character, Carson. He only gets a little time in this book (spoiler alert: the next book is all about him and a rag-tag young crew).
Carson is at home anywhere on the ship—climbing into the rigging, moving across the yardarms, steady where others would hesitate. His balance doesn’t come from standing still, but from knowing when to move, where to step, and how to adjust when the ship shifts beneath him.
As I pursue more balance this year, I’m reminded that balance isn’t something we think our way into—it’s something we practice. It’s learning when to climb and when to hold fast, when to advance and when to wait. A difference season for different focuses and shifting them is okay, in fact, it is how we should operate.
“To everything there is a season,
and a time to every purpose under heaven.”
—Ecclesiastes 3:1
If you’d like a small glimpse of Carson before his story unfolds, you can sign up for the newsletter and receive a free parable set in the world of Parables of the Sea—one that features Carson himself. Link in the bio!
A new year brings a thousand voices telling us who to become and how to get there. Be stronger. Be more disciplined. Be more present. Be more productive. Be more balanced.
But balance, I’m learning, doesn’t come from managing every wave.
In the world of sailing, a ship doesn’t stay upright because the captain perfectly controls the wind. It stays steady because of its keel — the deep, unseen weight beneath the surface that keeps it from tipping when the seas grow restless.
Our lives work the same way.
When we try to balance everything by effort alone, we burn out. But when our lives are rooted deeply in God — when we seek Him first and trust Him with our direction — He becomes the keel that steadies us. The winds still come. The waters still shift. But we are not undone.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
and do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
and He will make straight your paths.”
— Proverbs 3:5–6
This week, don’t ask yourself how to juggle everything better.
Ask instead: How deep does my keel run?
When we anchor ourselves in what is good, lovely, and true, the course begins to straighten — not because we mastered the sea, but because we trusted the One who made it.

Fun little fact… these numbers don’t appear until the books ship, but this is the first one of 2026. I’ve been trying to be intentional about praying over every book sold — asking that it would meet each reader exactly where they are, and that its message would bring comfort, hope, and encouragement.
